1. Higher hardness and wear resistance the hardness of the cutting part of the tool must be higher than that of the workpiece material. The higher the hardness of the tool material, the better the wear resistance. The hardness of tool material should be above HRC62 at room temperature.
2. Enough strength and toughness. The cutting tool bears a lot of pressure in the process of excessive cutting. Sometimes it works under the condition of impact and vibration. In order to make the cutting tool not crack and break, the cutting tool material must have enough strength and toughness. Generally, the bending strength is used to express the strength of the cutting tool material, and the impact value is used to express the toughness of the cutting tool material.
3. High heat resistance heat resistance refers to the performance of tool material in maintaining hardness, wear resistance, strength and toughness at high temperature. It is the main index to measure the cutting performance of tool material. This performance is also called red hardness of tool material.
4. The higher the thermal conductivity of the better thermal conductivity tool material, the more heat the tool transmits, which is conducive to reducing the cutting temperature of the tool and improving the durability of the tool.
5. Good processability in order to facilitate the processing and manufacturing of cutting tools, the cutting tool materials are required to have good process properties, such as forging, rolling, welding, machining and grindability, heat treatment characteristics and high temperature plastic deformation properties of cutting tool materials. For cemented carbide and ceramic cutting tool materials, good sintering and pressure forming properties are also required.
